No, the title of this article is not referring to a young adult coming-of-age story that’s recently been banned from your community’s local library. It’s the weird revenge-fantasy scenario that the spouse of a current Supreme Court Justice apparently strongly harbors.
In one of the more bizarrely stunning, disturbing, and cringe-worthy mini-tirades ever caught on tape from someone so closely related to one of the highest-ranking officials in our government, Martha-Ann Alito, wife to Samuel Alito, declared her deepest dreams and wishes. And they involve revenge and flags…. lots of them.
But not just flags. Also, ethnic heritage. The combination of her German heritage and flags will wreak havoc on her perceived enemies, or so she states.
“Look at me, look at me. I’m German, from Germany. My heritage is German. You come after me, I’m going to give it back to you. And there will be a way—it doesn’t have to be now—but there will be a way they will know.”
"Feminazis believe that [Justice Alito] should control me."
“I want a Sacred Heart of Jesus flag because I have to look across the lagoon at the Pride flag for the next month.”
“I made a flag in my head. This is how I satisfy myself. I made a flag. It’s white and it has yellow and orange flames around it. And in the middle is the word vergogna. Vergogna in Italian means ‘shame.’ Vergogna. V-E-R-G-O-G-N-A. Vergogna. Shame, shame, shame on you.”
If ever a wide-eyed emoji was highly useful and appropriate, this is the time.
No, I’m not making this up. Independent journalist and documentary filmmaker Lauren Windsor recently recorded conversations with Samuel and Martha-Ann Alito at a Supreme Court Historical Society event. The above quotes were directly from Martha-Ann Alito’s mouth. Both hers and Justice Alito’s comments were concerning in many, but different, ways.
Sam basically admitted that he’s a highly prejudiced jurist that wants to return “godliness” to a prominent place in Americal society, and that there is an ongoing battle between two forces that can barely coexist, and certainly not compromise with each other. Also, there will be a winner and a loser with little room to “split the difference”.
As bone-chilling as this window into the mind of Sam Alito is, at least it is a somewhat coherent and logical mindset, as repellant as it is to impartial legal analysis.
But the revelations of the innermost thoughts of his wife, Martha-Ann, are just intolerant, vengeful gibberish, that makes one wonder how stable this couple is. Much like how Ginnie Thomas, wife of Justice Clarence Thomas, has strong cult-tendencies, Martha-Ann seems to have anger management issues. She likely has gone to therapy for this and been told to channel her anger into something productive, which, is apparently flags.
Is it coincidence that the two most unapologetically right-wing justices spend most of their time with spouses that seem to be, or have been, on the brink of mental breakdown? It’s hard to say, but it’s also hard to imagine that it does not affect their thinking in any way.
The Alito’s obviously have chosen sides in an imaginary war of ideologies. Perhaps this war began as simply a simmering anxiety within themselves that they kept at bay through their work and private lives. But through constant exposure to their neighbors, who are—Gasp!—different than them, these simmerings have erupted into outright escalating disputes that have them looking for ways to enact revenge. (See my previous post “Justice Alito is Apparently in an Ongoing Fierce Political Rivalry with a Neighbor, Which Should Scare the Hell out of Us”).
Sam is most well-positioned to enact his revenge, as he helps one of the most powerful institutions in the world decide legal cases of utmost importance, and often writes the majority opinion for them. Martha-Ann is biding her time for the day when she can exact her version of revenge, when Sam “is free of this nonsense”, and then she can “put [the flag] up and I’m gonna send them a message every day. Maybe every week I’ll be changing the flags.”
It truly appears that the Alito’s really want Trump to win the election so that Sam can retire to be “free of this nonsense”, and Martha-Ann can commence her flag-revenge tour, starting with those annoying pride folks ‘cross the lagoon.
This has solidified in my mind that Justice Alito is likely to rule for Trump immunity in such a way that limits the damage for the election. This increases the chances for a Trump victory, which creates a more favorable environment for Alito to retire so that he’s not replaced with a liberal, thus paving the way for Marth-Ann to live out her dream of post-retirement trolling.
This depressing display of bitter anger from people that are supposed to be high-minded, worldly individuals safeguarding one of our most cherished institutions shows that bilious vitriol is not just confined to the fringes of social media. It exists in the more hallowed places in our society among our supposedly most respectable citizens.
And then we wonder why younger generations don’t respect their elders. They laugh as they are being yelled at to stay off lawns. As Mrs. Alito has shown, some lawns are not wise to walk on. You might get exposed to a dangerously overpowering flag.
I thoroughly enjoyed this piece yesterday, and only afterward did I happen to learn that 6/14 is apparently Flag Day! If that was a pure coincidence, then I only love your post that much more.
Betsy Ross Alito! I want to see her flag - is she creating flames in her mind. New rules - the spouses of SC Justices must be grilled in Congress, too! For fucks sake!
