The Fauci Hearings Highlight the Problems With the MAGA Covid Analyses

The Fauci hearing highlights that the goal is rage and blame, not lessons learned

I know I’m not the first to point out the hypocrisy of the MAGA crowd and their Covid analyses —

• It’s a highly dangerous bioweapon, yet completely harmless

• Why wear a mask? Masks are completely ineffective, even though professionals of all types use them to perform the exact same function they did with Covid

• Democrats stupidly shut down the economy, even though Trump was in power at the time of the shutdowns, as were many Republican governors in charge of their states’ responses

— but the Fauci hearings brought some old feelings simmering back up to the top of my brain, and I feel the need to write about them. After a few years of reflection, there are some particular points that I feel are relevant to future similar situations.

I am not making any scientific arguments here, this is purely a philosophical approach to this earthshattering event. I’m not going to prove anyone wrong, but just make some observations that hopefully can guide us in the future, if a bitter demagogic movement is still a power player in our politics.
