The Biden Pile-on Gains Steam, but Offers No Convincing Evidence
If you're going to smear a good man as being mentally unfit, you better have smoking-gun evidence
This article was written and ready for publication before Biden’s cancer diagnosis was released. It was meant to be published before the new book Original Sin was scheduled to be released on Tuesday, May 20.
I am saddened by the news of Biden’s health, and wish him the best, and hope he recovers and remains with us for years to come.
I felt I should still publish this, despite of Biden’s health news, as Biden’s mental fitness and the book release are still prominent in the news cycle and don’t seem to be abating at this time.
Below is the article in full. Thank you for reading and let me know what you thinK

I won’t be buying Original Sin by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, but it’s not because I don’t want to read it. I just don’t want to spend my money on it. I don’t want to outwardly support the book or its authors.
But I’d actually like to read it. If someone gave me the book, I’ll happily read it.
I want to be convinced that Joe Biden was actually unfit to be president.
Why?
Because that seems to be what’s being pushed upon me by corporate media and the pundit establishment. So I want to be convinced by coherent solid logic and irrefutable evidence. I like using those things to shape my opinions on a subject. Generally, I don’t form an opinion based on illogical arguments, hearsay, and lack of evidence.
Therefore, I am always interested in the truth. I want evidence. I want to be convinced, so that when I form an opinion I can confidently argue in favor of my opinion.
With the Biden mental fitness stuff, so far I’m unconvinced. Given that I haven’t read the book, the only things I can consider at this time are what’s being released by the book’s authors and surrogates to entice me to read the book. Presumably, the excerpts being released are supposed to prime me to believe that Joe Biden was unfit to be President during his presidential campaign and that his staff and political allies actively covered this up.
If what’s circulating on podcasts and news media is meant to prime me for this, it’s failing. Now, sure, there’s a chance there’s something in the book that’s so salacious and convincing that if I did read the book I will then believe in Biden’s unfitness and the cover up.
But it seems to me that if there was truly smoking-gun evidence, it would already be out there in the public sphere. That’s usually the thing that’s released publicly to get people to buy a book. Then, generally, the book is a let down from the enticement period stage prior to a book’s release.
But this enticement period only serves the purpose of selling the book. So it doesn’t matter if it’s a letdown. They want to maximize sales, so they would normally want to release the most salacious things they can to achieve this end. So given this, if what’s out there so far is the most salacious things they can find to maximize sales, then the book is a laughable fiasco.
It should also be noted that the accusations regarding Biden have escalated considerably. In 2023-2024, the criticism was that Biden was old, which was a political liability, and was reflected in the polls at the time. The idea that he was “unfit” wasn’t blatantly stated, it was more implied. Now, we are seeing more about that he was literally unfit and that fact was covered up by his handlers.
To me there’s a huge difference between appearing old as a political liability and actually being “unfit”. Even a Biden supporter like me can admit that he did appear old, and that it was potentially a political liability.
However, I’m inclined to believe that he was still certainly “fit” to be president, and the argument that he wasn’t “fit” is absurd, based on what’s available publicly at this time. As I said, I’m open to being convinced otherwise, but so far nothing has shaken my opinion on this, despite pundits like Nate Silver operating on the background assumption that one must be an idiot to think he was “fit”.
From what I can gather at this time, there are three main points being promoted publicly that are supposed to shock me into spending my hard-earned money on this book:
Biden’s aides considered putting him in a wheelchair
Biden didn’t recognize George Clooney at an event
Biden stumbled through his words and struggled recalling dates during the interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur
I’m going to address each of these points one by one.
The wheelchair
Read the following links about wheelchairgate and then come back to this article, here and here.
These sources, CNN and Axios, employ the authors, so they are the primary sources with privileged access to what should be the most salacious information to entice me to buy this book. As you can see, the wording in these articles are very similar and therefore likely coordinated.
So in this context, the fact that aides “discussed the possibility [Biden would] need to use a wheelchair if he won reelection” is probably supposed to shock me out of my seat, reach for my phone or laptop and preorder a copy of this book.
Yet I remain seated and frugal.
Biden was old enough at the time that the idea of a wheelchair is not shocking. Many old people have physical issues that are exacerbated as they get older, and need the assistance of canes, walkers, or wheelchairs.
Yes, Biden was old. I get that. He was slower in his walk. His gait was more awkward. I could see someone in his circle discussing with someone else the idea of a wheelchair. I could also see why they wouldn’t want to say this publicly in general, but especially during an active presidential campaign. Does this mean Biden was “unfit”, or that there was a cover up? Hardly.
Another problem with this is that people do govern effectively from wheelchairs. FDR most certainly did. Texas Governor Greg Abbot currently is too. Why is it okay that they’re in wheelchairs, but it’s damning if Biden was in one? Maybe I need to read the book to find out. But the implications are pretty discriminatory.
George Clooney
Imagine you’re an 80-year-old who was jet-lagged from a 3-day trip to Italy for the G-7 summit. You spent this time talking to world leaders. You were engaged in high-stakes world economic discussions. You’ve seen hundreds of people over the last few weeks, thousands over months, hundreds of thousands over years.
Are we to believe that Biden is not mentally fit because he didn’t recognize George Clooney at some fundraising event?
The CNN article that broke this excerpt from the book cavalierly states that Clooney is “one of the most recognizable men in the world”. But is he?
I understand he’s famous, but it’s been years since he’s been relevant in the entertainment world. Can you name a recent Clooney movie?
The most recent one I can think of is Michael Clayton, which seems like it came out 5-10 years ago, but is actually almost 20 years old; it was released in 2007.
Here’s a recent picture of George Clooney:
The guy does look different than in his heyday, right? He’s older, wrinkled, and doesn’t sport the five o’clock shadow anymore. He could be mistaken for Tony Randall.
Again, sure, George Clooney’s famous and a pretty recognizable celebrity. But am I supposed to be convinced Biden was not mentally fit to be president because he didn’t recognize Clooney?
If there’s evidence that he didn’t recognize his wife or daughter, then we can talk. But George Clooney? No.
The Hur Interview
This is really the weakest of the weak argument. The authors have been pushing the audio interview between Special Counsel Robert Hur and Biden as strong evidence that he was mentally suspect. He forgot dates! He couldn’t recall the date his son died!
Listen to the audio recordings of the interview and see what you think. Yes, he’s an old man that doesn’t recall every detail or date of the last 10 years of his life. But overall, he speaks knowledgably and coherently. He really just sounds like a normal older person who’s forgotten more information and dates that most of us have learned in our lifetimes.
And the idea that it’s problematic that he stumbled on his words when recalling details of his son’s death is ridiculous. It would be more surprising if a person of any age could talk through details of their child’s death without stumbling. It would be one of the hardest things in the world to do.
Also, an interesting thing that is being ignored is in the last few seconds of the audio excerpt regarding Biden’s son, Hur suggests they take a break, to which Biden says no, and wants to continue. Would a feeble, frail, unfit man want to take a break, or continue to the end?
Thank you, sir, can I have another?
Is this all they got? Maybe not. We’ll find out when the book comes out tomorrow, I guess.
But a few other notable criticisms that have made the rounds, summed up by Biden-basher Nate Silver in his recent piece, are that he was “indecisive” during the Build Back Better negotiations and that he stopped scheduling events that start after 8 PM.
Wow, being indecisive is something that only someone that is mentally incompetent would do (it’s also very questionable if he was actually “indecisive”, or just negotiating the way he thought was best).
And no events after 8 PM? The guy was 80 and people that old get tired earlier in the evening. He also probably got up and got to work earlier than most Americans. But we don’t hear anything about his wake-up time.
Look, if you’re going to smear a good man who was an effective president, fine. Do what you think you got to make a buck.
But if you’re going to try and convince the general public and not be confined to conspiracy laden corners of the media eco-sphere, you’re going to have to come up with better stuff than what’s being touted right now.
Does the book have the smoking-gun evidence? I’m highly doubtful. If it did, we would have heard about it by now.
Thanks for this. I needed a good laugh.😂
Don’t we have more pressing topics to deal with?
